Veterans Day 2023

Ewing Township Veterans Day celebration set for Friday, November 10th

Ewing Township citizens, veterans and families are cordially invited to join Mayor Bert Steinmann, Township Council and the Ewing Patriotic Committee on Friday, November 10th to commemorate Veterans Day at 11 am at Major General George Betor Veterans’ Park, 2 Jake Garzio Drive, at the rear of the municipal building.

2023veteransdayebOriginally known as Armistice Day, the observance marked the end of World War I which was formally recognized on the “11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month” in 1918.  President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11, 1919, as the first commemoration of Armistice Day.  Nov. 11 became a holiday dedicated to Armistice Day by Congressional Act in 1938 and we have since gathered annually to honor our veterans for their adherence to the ideals of patriotism and love of country, as well as a willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

The ceremony will feature Brigadier General Bradford R. Everman, Chief of Staff-Air, NJ Air National Guard and Air National Guard (ANG) Asst to the Commander, 1st Air Force (CONR-1AF) as guest speaker and will include the posting of the colors by Ewing’s Honor Guard, the singing of the national anthem, and special music performances.  The welcome and remarks will be provided by Brigadier General Robert S. Dutko, Mayor Steinmann, and Council President Kathleen Wollert.   Brigadier General Dutko will serve as Master of Ceremonies and introduce the event’s special guests.   Mayor Steinmann will lay the Veteran’s Day Wreath.  A memorial plaque in honor of Colonel Robert W. Shaub will also be dedicated during the ceremony.

Refreshments will be served under the pavilion at the conclusion of the ceremony.

This event is open to the public and members of the community are encouraged and welcome to attend.  Please join us as we honor the military men and women who have served our nation.
