Ewing Township Needs Your Help Identifying Vulnerable Residents

Tropical Storm Ida reminds us of how quickly and unexpectedly situations can turn dangerous as it wreaked havoc across towns across our state on September 1st

Ewing Fire DepartmentIda took lives, flooded areas of towns and caused untold millions of dollars of damage in NJ alone.

These kinds of emergencies drive home the importance of communication with all members of the public, particularly vulnerable residents.  Effective communication is critical and can save lives.

The Ewing Township Fire Department has created an emergency assistance form for residents with disabilities and caregivers to identify at-risk members of our community and better served them during an emergency. This information will be helpful during future storms, power outages or other town emergencies. It can also aid police, fire, and medical help if the resident is not answering the phone or able to open the door. Please complete the form and return to the Ewing Township Fire Department at 1666 Pennington Road, Ewing, NJ 08628.  All information is strictly confidential and only used for emergency response and planning.

The State of New Jersey also offers a Special Needs Registry to help you be better prepared in the event of a disaster.  The “Register Ready” program allows NJ residents with disabilities to preregister so that emergency responders can better plan to serve them in a disaster or other emergency.  It is designed to help emergency responders locate and safely evacuate people who could find it difficult to help themselves in the event of a major disaster, such as a hurricane. This is a free, voluntary, strictly confidential service designed to protect you.  Register online at www.registerready.nj.gov.
