Citizens' Police Academy Program

Ewing Police Department announces an 8 week Citizens' Police Academy this fall.

Have you ever wondered what it is like to be a police officer?  Mayor Bert Steinmann and Chief John Stemler encourage you to learn more.

If you are one of the many people who are interested in learning about law enforcement, the Ewing Police Department can be of help to you. We are again offering residents an opportunity to become familiar with the day-to-day operations of their police department.

The Ewing Police Department will conduct an 8 week “Citizen Police Academy" program for Township residents starting September 25, 2019 and running through to November 13, 2019.  Classes are on Wednesday evenings from 6 PM to 9 PM at the Ewing Municipal and Police Building (2 Jake Garzio Drive, Ewing, NJ 08628).

Applications can be picked up in person at the Ewing Police Department or downloaded from the department’s webpage at www.ewingpolice.com.

This interactive program is designed to educate township residents about department procedures, guidelines, responsibilities, and demands of personnel that guide police decision-making. Some of the topics that will be covered include: An overview of the Department’s organization and structure, recruitment and training, and the roles and responsibilities of the various divisions and sections. In addition, participants will be given an opportunity to “ride along” with a patrol officer and experience a firearms training simulation.

The Citizen Police Academy is open to Township residents, business owners, and school faculty within the Township of Ewing who are over the age of 18.

Please be advised that this class is not a training course to become a sworn police officer.
