Low Income Household Water Assistance Program

Struggling to pay your water and sewer bills?

The State’s Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) can help you pay arrears for your water and sewer bills. The program can help you to avoid service disruptions, restore services, stay up-to-date with your payments, and pay reconnections fees. The program may also be able to help address tax liens due to water and sewer arrears.

The program is available to eligible individual households that pay for their own water and sewer and meet low-income requirements. The LIHWAP program is not available for business accounts, estates, or property management companies.

The monthly household income must be at or below 60% of the NJ state median income, which is the same income guidelines for the LIHEAP program. To get more information and apply, go to waterassistance.nj.gov  or call 2-1-1.
